Front row: Lauren Edgar, Daniela Hernandez, Erin Gibbons, Minako Righter.<\/em><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p>Hi everyone, \u00a0 \u00a0this is yet another post that&#8217;s mostly a photo-dump.<\/p>\n<p>When the team found out two days ago they&#8217;d have the full day off Wednesday (their Wednesday, not mine in the US), \u00a0they rented a car for a day trip to Lake Tekapo, \u00a0about 3 hrs drive SW of Christchurch. \u00a0It&#8217;s about 3 am their time on Thursday as I write this, \u00a0so I don&#8217;t know yet if they&#8217;ll be in the air today.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4333\" style=\"width: 1210px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4333\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-4333 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/artscimedia.case.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/111\/2023\/12\/06084348\/Lauren-and-Erin.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-4333\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Tentmates Lauren and Erin with Lake Tekapo and the alps in the distance.<\/span><\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p>In <strong>te reo M\u0101ori<\/strong> , <em>Takap\u014d<\/em> means &#8220;to leave in haste at night&#8221;. \u00a0Legend says the lake (and the other finger lakes dotting the Mackenzie Plains below the Southern Alps) was dug by R\u0101kaihaut\u016b with his magic stick, &#8220;filling them with food for his many descendants&#8221; (from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/R\u0101kaihaut\u016b\">Wikipedia<\/a>)<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4334\" style=\"width: 1210px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4334\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-4334 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/artscimedia.case.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/111\/2023\/12\/06085641\/Minako-and-Daniela.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-4334\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><em>Minako and Daniela look longingly at the southern alps.
