\"AmyAmy Przeworski, Ph.D. (she\/her\/hers)<\/strong>
\nI am interested in factors that contribute to the development and maintenance of anxiety disorders in children, adolescents and adults. These factors include interpersonal correlates of anxiety, cognitive factors, and behavioral factors. I also develop novel treatments for anxiety disorders. I mostly work with individuals with OCD, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, and separation anxiety disorder.<\/p>\n

I’m also interested in the experiences of minority individuals, including LGBTQ individuals and racial and ethnic minorities. Minority individuals often experience discrimination, an experience that is associated with increased stress and psychological symptoms. I am interested in what factors buffer the experience of discrimination in minority individuals and are associated with resilience and adaptive coping.<\/p>\n

The studies that we do in the lab are designed to help improve the understanding of the development and treatment of stress and anxiety disorders as well as factors associated with adaptive coping with stressors.<\/p>\n

My research interests are in studying mood and anxiety disorders among adolescents, particularly stress-related factors that contribute to the development and maintenance of these psychiatric conditions. Further, I am interested in adapting psychotherapy treatments to meet the needs of marginalized populations, including LGBTQ+ youth.<\/p>\n

My research interests focus on how identity-based stressors impact experiences of anxiety and depression, such as discrimination and the role of gender or racial\/ethnic stereotypes. I also research math anxiety, with a specific interest in bridging the gaps between academic and clinical considerations of math anxiety, both in assessment and intervention.<\/p>\n

My research interests surround the emergence and treatment of OCD and anxiety-related disorders and their impact on interpersonal interactions and well-being. In particular, I focus on the influences of parent-child interactions, trauma, health\/disability, and identity-based stressors on disorder presentation with the goal of understanding influences of psychosocial factors on treatment implementation and increasing access for underserved, marginalized youth, including sexual and gender minorities and low-income families.<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m mainly interested in studying PTSD and co-occurring trauma and anxiety-related disorders in underrepresented populations. More specifically, I would like to identify early intervention and symptom prevention methods to meet the needs of individuals and families from these groups who have escaped intimate partner and\/or domestic violence. I am also passionate about developing individualized treatment plans for parents and children that prioritize accessibility of care.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0I am passionate about studying mental health disparities among underrepresented groups. Particularly, I am interested in anxiety and depression and how both of these mental health disorders correlate not only with each other but also an individual’s sexuality and racial identity. Additionally, I am intrigued by research involving\u00a0how adverse childhood experiences impact the development of mental health disorders in minority\u00a0groups. Therefore, I find developing curated interventions based on one’s distinct experiences very important to the mental health epidemic.<\/p>\n
