He also has a joint appointment at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center in the School of Medicine, serving as Professor of General Medical Sciences. His research interests focus on optics and photonics of engineered metamaterials, with applications in energy and biomedicine.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-group grad-container\">\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-group lab-member-block\">\r\n<h1 class=\"member-name\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-402 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/artscimedia.case.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/239\/2025\/04\/22210604\/JonBoyd.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"229\" height=\"222\" \/>Jonathan Boyd<\/h1>\r\n<p class=\"member-bio lab-member-sec-right\"><br \/><strong>Jonathan Boyd is a recent graduate from the group who is now a full time lecturer and assistant lab director for introductory instructional laboratories at Case Western Reserve University. His dissertation work during his time in the group centered around emergent plasmonic behavior in boron doped diamonds, where the response of the diamond was simulated for varying doping concentrations and tested experimentally with Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS) and Pico Induced Force Microscopy (PiFM). In his free time, Jon enjoys walking in the local park with his wife, son, and goldendoodle.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-group grad-container\">\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-group lab-member-block\">\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-group .lab-member-sec-left\">\r\n<h1 class=\"member-name\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-400 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/artscimedia.case.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/239\/2025\/04\/22210603\/Akeshi.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"226\" height=\"243\" \/>Akeshi Aththanayake<\/h1>\r\n<p class=\"member-bio lab-member-sec-right\"><strong>Akeshi is a fourth-year Ph.D. student from Kandy, Sri Lanka. Her current research activities include Cavity QED using ultrafast optics and ENZ materials. His reach interest is in metamaterials,non linear optics and machine learning. His current research involves liquid crystal random lasing, directional random lasing induced in metalens, metalens simulations and light-matter interaction in thin film stacks. Her research interest is in designing metalens structures through electromagnetic simulations in COMSOL and MEEP. She&#8217;s also working on using Nanoscribe technology to 3D print nanoscale structures for metalens and metasurface applications. His current research involves the implementation of ENZ metamaterials with lanthanide doped upconverting nanoparticles for increased SWIR capture and detection efficiency.
