Wrapping up (part of) the season

Just a quick update–we have received word that we are on the flight schedule for this week to be pulled out of the field starting as early as tomorrow (!). We spent today wrapping up loose ends, which included picking up our final meteorites (flagged but not recovered until now), collecting all the flags we placed in areas with meteorites, inventorying food, and packing our gear. It’s strange to think that we may be breaking down the camp that has been our home for the past several weeks. There’s been a lot of poor weather throughout the continent, so there’s a reasonable chance that we won’t start our pull-out process tomorrow, but the end is nigh. We’ll know tomorrow morning whether the flight is coming–we’ll keep you posted! In the meantime we’ve heard that Johnny and Con are still at McMurdo waiting for a flight to Allen Hills. If we’re very lucky, we might get to overlap with them a bit. Fingers crossed!

ADDITIONAL NOTE FROM RPH:   I’ve been notified by the aircraft coordinators in McMurdo that the Miller Range group is on the schedule for today (Monday our time, Tuesday their time).  That doesn’t mean they’re first priority or even that they are likely to fly today-and often only a single flight can be fit in due to weather, crew time constraints, other priorities, etc. so the group gets split.   But the first key step is getting on the schedule, and I can confirm they’re on it.
