Today was our first full day in McMurdo!   It was a mighty fine and very full day with lots of training and lots of gear.  From this newbie’s perspective, the amount of both stuff and logistics is daunting.  But, the wonderful McMurdo staff is always on hand to lend guidance about everything from how to troubleshoot our snow mobiles to how to operate the frosty boy.  Our fearless leaders Johnny, Brian and Jim filled our exploding heads with information about many, many things:  our kitchen gear, our snuggly sleeping gear (wiggie bears and snowie owls), our food planning and pulls, and our snow machines!   The snow mobile classroom training was fun, but the practical training provided insight into our future field personas (see image).  Need I say more?  Calling it a night –we are still working through a bit of jet lag and the excitement of yesterday’s flight.
