Progress. Not now, maybe later, but progress.

044 Twin Otter at La Paz Camp

A Twin Otter at LaPaz in 2004.

Quick note here-  Just got off the phone with Jim Karner and John Schutt in McMurdo.  As is so often the case,  the availability of aircraft (or lack thereof) is making havoc of the schedule.  LC-130’s and  Twin Otters are both oversubscribed for the next week, so  Jim and John are looking at alternative put-in scenarious using the Basler.  That’s got good points and bad points- that plane is bigger and faster than a Twin Otter and can land at Miller Range if it has to,  but not just anywhere, and it’ll take 4 trips or more from McMurdo to get it all in motion.  If the LC-130’s are long haul semi trailers and the Twin Otters are NYC cabs, the Basler is the minivan from Uber.

So patience is the word of the day and the word for the next week,  and stay tuned…..
