Today was our first day of meteorite hunting as a team! Our first step was to take a look at the local geology to get a sense of what kinds of rocks are “normal” for this part of the world. There are a lot of beautiful metamorphics here, with huge garnets and lovely folding. But of course, glaciers will pick up and carry rocks from along their routes, often providing a mixture of rock types that can sometimes look very meteoritic indeed. However, she couldn’t fool us–we were able to recover three meteorites from amongst the many impostor rocks. We arrived back at camp triumphant and ready for dinner.
