The alternate title for this blog entry is “The Waiting Game”. We are in that state where we get together for an early breakfast, hopefully checking the flight manifest screens and typically seeing our flights up there (yeay!), but then peering around the wall at the outside weather and wondering how anyone can still be on the schedule. Then by the time we finish breakfast we learn that, as we suspected, no one is flying today. Condition 2 is pretty scary even for walking around town. It’s windy, which means it’s dusty, so that means there are some nice dust devils (or perhaps just whirlygigs, as there is no thermal component!), and it’s cold enough that you look around in your pockets for something extra to cover your face, while simultaneously keeping your gloved hands in your pockets. You really can’t see anything of the sea ice or Ob Hill, and sometimes the buildings start to disappear. So we all agree it’s a good decision to stay in the warm and comfy indoors and eat, sleep, eat again, sleep a little more, and maybe hang out together and watch a movie. There is also the Helo party tonight – the 20 year anniversary! There will be bands and dancing, all in the big helo hangar. Vets will remember fun times at the parties in Mactown. Love and a good weekend to all! Jani Radebaugh 17 December 2016
