Analog site: meteorite hunting practice

The girls at Leithfield Beach

Due to runway repairs, we’ve been waiting in Christchurch before heading to Antarctica. With our free time, we found a beach that may be similar to the moraine beach we will encounter at Davis-Ward! Leithfield Beach was very nicely size-sorted, with some areas of densely-packed pebbles, and allowed us to practice our meteorite hunting skills. Although our goal of finding the perfect skipping stones was different than it will be in Antarctica, the analog site offered us a glimpse into our future field activities. We’re anxiously waiting to start our real work and looking forward to our scheduled flight to Antarctica tomorrow.
