Hi everyone, time for me to share a little bit of news from Christchurch. The remaining 7 members of the field team (besides Brian) are all there, and are making good progress. Here’s snippets from a few emails….
Minako writes: “…..We passed COVID tests (woo-hoo!!) and got all ECW gear yesterday. We have a required NSF training this morning (via Zoom) and we should be ready to fly tomorrow morning 🙂 Every little step makes me so excited about this big adventure! We are enjoying spring-early summer in New Zealand. It’s beautiful here. Daniela, Jon, Lauren and I walked around Hagley Park together yesterday. The park is just beautiful with impressive giant trees, fresh leaves, and flowers everywhere. We are inhaling all since we know we won’t have them in Antarctica.”
Erin added: “….The CDC visit went very well and I feel SO much better after trying on all that gear. It’s fantastic! And I feel much more confident that I’m going to come home with all my fingers and toes.”
I think I can speak for all of us when I say we also want Erin to come back with all her fingers and toes. No more or less than she left with. Let’s all keep many fingers and toes crossed in hopes of the team having a safe, swift journey south tomorrow!
