Hut Point Ridge

One of the key historical sites in Antarctica is Robert Falcon Scott’s Discovery Hut, located by McMurdo Sound at Hut Point, which was built by Scott’s Discovery 1903-1907 Discovery Expedition. [This is not to be confused with Scott’s Hut, located `20 km further north at Cape Evans, which was used during the Terra Nova Expedition.] The hut is just a short walk away from McMurdo, along one of the roads leading out of town. From Hut Point a trail leads up the ridge to Arrival Heights, with excellent views of the sea ice and a number of seals, the only signs of life (other than human) that we have seen here so far.
Things are starting to move here: our first group of four (Johnny, Brian, Devon and Vinciane) are scheduled to head out to C-TAM this afternoon (Friday) and the rest of us (Ralph, Ryan, Shannon and Christine) should follow Saturday morning. So pretty soon you should be getting posts from out in the field!
