Collecting Meteorites Now!

Today was another exciting day (Am I saying that every day perhaps?..). We didn’t get any flight in, so we work hard all day long. In the morning, we went out to old camp site (1996) where old fuel drums were buried. We dig those drums and brought 5 of them back to our camp site. We found 3 meteorites just going and coming back from there. After lunch, we started systematic search on blue ice field with 4 ski-doo. We found probably 10 or so in just hour or so. Then sun came out. We decided collecting those meteorites we found because when you have good sun light, you can take good pictures. We came back to the camp, got collection gears, GPS, camera, then started collecting those precious meteorites we found. It was my first experience of collecting meteorites. First one took pretty long time, but soon we got nice routine. By the third one, we beat GPS with our picture taking (GPS takes over 3 mins)! So fun!! For the last, I need to mention that we found a really interesting looking, palm-sized meteorite. Shiny black fusion crust with much lighter color inside with some crystals! Minako, January 4, 2017
