This morning we awoke to a thick fog that is obscuring visibility to ~50 meters. This is the first time thus far in the season that we have experienced the infamous Antarctic fog, which is described in detail in the journals of Scott, Shackleton, and Amundsen. So we are staying in camp this morning to do some chores and are waiting to see if the fog lifts in the afternoon. In the meantime, we have a special message for our PI Ralph Harvey. We wish to assure him that despite the appearance of an Independence flag in a recent post, we are still dedicated to consuming our full rations of delicious Blue Sun Fruity-Oaty Bars (known colloquially as “Bumper” bars in these parts). The Fruity-Oaty Bar: Definitely not telling us to go to Miranda.

Note added by RPH- I made the mistake of sending Nina a joke text saying Blue Sun had dropped us as a sponsor over the flag she showed. That will teach me to never ever question the geek cred of an ANSMET volunteer. You will be out-geeked. Also I should refer you to another occurrence of the “Jane” hat- see “Food, Glorious Food” from last year.
And if you’re still confused, all of this is fictional stuff from the science fiction Firefly universe. Look it up.
