Anna Cristina S. Samia

Anna Cristina S. Samia is a Professor of Chemistry at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. She received her BS in Chemistry degree, magna cum laude, from the University of the Philippines-Diliman in 1998, and her Ph.D in Chemistry degree from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2002, where she received a Molecular Design Institute Graduate Fellowship. She continued her training as a Postdoc at the Center for Nanoscale Materials at Argonne National Laboratory in Chicago, IL, and worked as a Research Fellow at the School of Medicine in CWRU until starting her independent career in 2010. Her research interests center around the synthesis and study of the magneto-opto-electronic properties of intermetallic and metal oxide nanostructures with emphasis on chemical design to achieve desired properties and function. The main applications are in the areas of magnetic imaging and therapy, nanosensor development, and environmental nanotechnology. Dr. Samia has published her work in high-impact journals and has co-organized and chaired sessions in various international conferences (ACS,MRS,IWMPI) that promote research on functional nanomaterials. She also serves as the Director of the Women in Chemistry@CWRU Professional Development program, and the Director of the Chemistry LEAD (Leadership, Enrichment, and Academic Development) Scholars program at CWRU. Dr. Samia is also the faculty adviser of the MS in Chemistry students at CWRU.

Yu Hsin Tsai (Terence)

Yu Hsin Tsai (Terence) is a 5th-year Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Chemistry at Case Western Reserve University. He earned his B.S. degree in Chemistry from the University of Oregon in 2018. During his undergraduate studies, he worked with Dr. David C. Johnson, focusing on the investigation of the ferecrystal mechanism in VSe2 thin films. He joined Dr. Samia lab since 2018 as a master student, then transferred to the Ph.D. program in 2020. Currently, Terence’s research is centered around the study of visible-light activated Titania nanomaterials for biomedical applications.
Md. Masud Alam

Md. Masud Alam is a 2nd-Year Ph.D student in the department of Chemistry at Case Western Reserve University. He earned his B.Sc. in Chemistry from Janhangirnagar University (JU), Bangladesh. Under the guidance of Prof. Khan, he completed his MS from JU, focusing on the study of the drug-surfactants interaction. Currently, Masud’s research revolves around exploring the antimicrobial properties of nanomaterials.
Ross Clark Prado

Ross Clark Prado is a 1st Year PhD student in the Department of Chemistry at Case Western Reserve University. He earned his B.S. degree in Mining Engineering in 2015 and M.S. degree in Environmental Engineering in 2022 from the University of the Philippines Diliman. He worked in the cement industry for six years and is currently doing research on applied metal oxide nanoparticles that can be used on materials such as concrete and thermosets.

She earned her B.S degree in Chinese Medicine (Analysis) from the Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Her research focuses on the study of antibiotic and antibiofilm applications.
